Veronica U. is a conscientious student with a passion for learning.
Ifran A. is a friendly student who enjoys writing.
Mrs. Luttrell:
Emma F. is kind to her classmates and a very enthusiastic learner.
Karrington S. is a wonderful teacher's helper who has improved in learning his math facts.
Ms. Marcus:
Teyauna B. enjoys helping other students, enjoys writing stories and has learned almost all of the first grade sight words.
Reynaldo H. has imroved his reading fluency and learning his math facts.
Ms. Smith-Green:

Taviair D. is an outstanding writer who read one of his stories on the morning announcements.
Mrs. Woodruff:
Daniel R. always does his classwork the first time, writes descriptive stories and reads fluently.
Taylor C. does her classwork promptly, is a great leader and helper to her table mates, and writes wonderful stories.

Parent - teacher conferences will be held from Monday, January 25 through Friday, January 29. Look for a conference slip to come home with your child on January 14th with your conference date and time. Please send back your confirmation as soon as possible so we can schedule our conferences. We look forward to discussing your child's progress with you!

Parents: First Grade is creating a “Movie Night at Home” theme basket to raffle off at the Fall Festival. We are asking for donations of the following items to help us out. If you can donate any of these items, please send them in with your child by Tuesday, October 27.
Suggested donations:
* Milk Dud * new video / DVD * Skittles * M&Ms
* Raisinettes * small bags of chips * Microwave popcorn * cans of soda

Although each teacher has individualized her schedule, here is the basic schedule that first grade follows:
7:15 to 7:50: Arrival
7:50 to 8:00: Morning announcements
8:00 to 8:10: Compton Literacy / Math Focus
8:10 to 10:00: Reader's Workshop and English / Language Arts Block
10:00 to 11:00: Writer's Workshop
10:50 to 11:30: Lunch
11:40 to 12:20: Specials
12:20 to 2:00: Math Workshop
2:00 to 2:10: Pack bookbags and prepare for dismissal
2:10 to 2:30: Dismissal
* Teachers schedule time once a week for a visit to the Media Center
* Science, social studies and health are integrated into reading and writing throughout the year
