Cobb County School Counseling Mission Statement

The Mission of the Cobb County School Counseling Program is to assist students in overcoming barriers that impede learning. The goal of all Cobb County Professional School Counselors is to implement a standards-based comprehensive school counseling program that:

  • Includes a curriculum addressing the needs of all students in the domains of academic, personal/social, and career development
  • Provides specialized interventions based on identified student needs
  • Assists students in acquiring appropriate attitudes, knowledge, and communication skills to promote healthy relationships
  • Enhances the ability of students to identify and utilize the appropriate resources needed for post-secondary success
  • Creates positive relationships with students fostering personal growth, service to others and academic achievement
  • Advocates for all students encouraging them to develop to their fullest potential
  • Encourages counselors to consult and collaborate with other educators, parents, and community on behalf of all students

 

Compton Elementary School Counseling Mission Statement

The mission of Compton Elementary School Counseling program is to provide a comprehensive, developmental counseling program that addresses the areas of academic, career, and personal/social development. School Counselors will support all students in overcoming barriers that impede learning as well as creating a safe atmosphere where students will become lifelong learners.

 

Philosophy Statement

  • All students can learn 
  • All students have the ability to be successful academically 
  • All students should have equal access to a developmental school counseling program 
  • All students have the right to be treated with dignity and respect 
  • All students have the right to a safe learning environment 
  • The diversity among students is considered when planning and implementing the school counseling program 
  • School Counselors serve as leaders within the school community and assume the role of student advocates for systematic change
  • All students should have access to a highly qualified professional school counselor

 

 

And that Compton Elementary School Counseling Program shall:

  • Meet the needs of all students and should positively impact student achievement
  • Be driven by the academic, career and personal/social standards of the American School Counselor Association (ASCA)
  • Utilize all available school and community resources to address the needs of students
  • Use data to demonstrate the impact the school counseling program has on student achievement and as well use the results to continue to improve the Compton Elementary Counseling Program

 

 And that all counselors at Compton Elementary School will:

  • Adhere to the ethical codes and guidelines as stated by the American School Counselor Association
  • Participate in professional development opportunities in order to become knowledgeable of new tools and strategies that will increase the effectiveness and quality of school counseling services
