Compton Counseling Program
Dear Parent/Guardian,
Welcome back! We are excited about this new school year and the fresh start for growth and achievement in every child. We are thrilled to be your child’s Guidance Counselors this year. We will be providing a comprehensive and preventive counseling program for the elementary grade levels that is designed to educate them in life skills necessary for social and academic successes. We will spend most of our time conducting Classroom Guidance Lessons, Individual Counseling, and Small Group Counseling. Through these opportunities, we hope to assist students with their academic, social and emotional development.
We will visit your child’s class every three weeks for guidance lessons and will be offering small group and individual counseling on an "as needed" basis. Classroom Guidance is taught to all students based on Georgia’s state guidelines. Individual and Small Group Counseling is voluntary. If you prefer that your child not participate in Individual or Small Group Counseling, please send a letter to our attention stating that request.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child or our counseling program, please feel free to contact us at any time. We look forward to serving you and your children this year.
Counseling Services Classroom Guidance We visit the individual classrooms on a regular basis to teach lessons that encourage social development, decision-making skills, academic achievement and school success. Some of the guidance topics we will be covering this year are: Career Exploration, Self-Control, Getting Along with Others, Good Work Habits, and Stranger Safety.
Small Group Counseling
We offer small groups throughout the year for students with similar needs and interests. These groups provide a unique setting to discuss such topics as Changing Families, Anger Control, Grief and Loss, Peer Relations, and Positive Self-Concept. Parents are notified about groups and must give permission before a child may participate in a group.
Individual Counseling Personal, social, behavioral and academic counseling is available during the school day. It should be noted that individual counseling is not therapeutic in nature, as it is beyond the role of the school counselor to conduct, in depth, on-going individual sessions. Parent & Teacher Consultations We are available to assist parents with concerns regarding their children, as well as assisting teachers with their students’ needs. How does a student get to see the counselor?
